WORSHIP….an encounter with God.

Romans 12:1 is among many passages of scripture that instruct us on worship:

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.” (NIV)

At Pleasantview, we strive to have authentic encounters with a holy, living God every time we gather to worship.  We’ve learned (and continue to learn) that God alone is to be the object of our worship.  While some lead or prompt others to worship, the congregation as a whole are the performers while God is the audience.  He alone is the judge of what we offer and how we offer it.  We utilize “hymns, psalms and spiritual songs” (Eph. 5:19) in our corporate worship settings, along with prayer and personal testimonies.  We sometimes incorporate dramatic readings and interpretations of biblical stories or current day life situations to enhance our worship experience.  Central to worshipping at Pleasantview is the preaching of God’s Word and an opportunity to respond, either publicly or privately.  Our worship services are predictable and spontaneous, celebrative and somber, comforting and confrontive.  Come see and experience it for yourself!

Worship Arts Ministry

So, how can you be involved in the Worship Ministry?  Here are the different opportunities our church members have to serve God through the Arts.
Classic Choir
Classic Choir is our ongoing week-to-week choir that rehearses every Wednesday night (except July), preparing & providing choral anthems for our early Sunday morning classic worship services.
S.W.A.T.
Spiritual Worship Arts Team is an outgrowth of the former Youth Worship Arts. Actors/Singers of all ages work together to perform skits that enhance and complement themes and messages in various worship services. Rehearsals will generally occur Sunday afternoons during the school year.
Seasonal Choral Productions
The Worship Arts Ministry does 2-3 seasonal choir projects a year; Easter Choir, Patriot Choir and Christmas Choir. At times, these choirs call for multi-generational participation (older children through senior adult), while at other times, they are more age specific. This ministry asks individuals to be committed to musical projects for an average of 3 months at a time rather than year round. Rehearsals generally occur Wednesday evenings and/or Sunday afternoons during respective seasons.
Children's Music/Musicals
Singing is a very natural (and biblical) form of expression in the lives of Christians and needs to be taught and modeled to our children. That’s why we incorporate music, vocal and instrumental, into much of PBC’s children/preschool ministries. Children’s Musicals are special projects that are done through existing programs such as VBS (summer) or Kids For Christ (Sunday evenings during fall and winter). Watch for promotion of children’s musicals in weekly and monthly church bulletins.
Praise Band/Praise Team
Our Praise Team and Band rehearse weekly on Wednesday evenings throughout the year. Using a rotation system, these musicians serve as the worship leaders for our Sunday morning contemporary worship services, monthly Worship on the First, and other events as needed. Auditions are held at least annually in January and at the discretion of the Associate Pastor/Worship.
Handbells
Our Jubilate Ringers meet and rehearse every Wednesday from September through May at 5:55 pm in the Education Building. This is a unique opportunity for experienced music readers to master a synchronized approach to making music. These groups practice and prepare music to be played in a variety of worship services at all times of the year.
